Learn Something New: The Hidden Meanings of Color

Did you know that wearing orange increases oxygen supply to the brain, produces an energizing effect, stimulates brain activity and is therefor the ideal color to wear when working out?  I didn’t, until now!

Or how about wearing red (for women) and blue (for men) when going out on a date? Red is the color of passion and therefor gets your date’s heart racing.  While blue is stable, and women love stability in men.

Here are the deets on color and their effects on behavior from Behavioral Investigator (that sounds really cool, doesn’t it?) Vanessa Van Edwards.  You can also download her color guide here <– really handy to post on closet door 🙂

  1. This is a very good post of awareness to unaware influences. That there are things we are not consciously aware of that influence us. Please forgive me for what I’m about to add to this already complex subject.
There are the hidden meanings of colors like you mention. However, as if that was not complex enough. How about the distinct meaning of color for people with synesthesia?
Sorry, just didn’t want to leave them out for anybody who wanted to do research into it.

    1. Thanks. Frankly speaking I wasn’t aware of synesthesia until I read your comment. From what I’ve (quickly) read, assigning meanings to colors would indeed not be as straight-forward for synesthetes.

I guess I just learned something new right there. I appreciate your comment.
