Feel-Good Fridays

What’s Your Wake-Up Routine Like?

Hello sexy sun drops! TGIF aaaannnd, it’s time to put ourselves in a “feel-good” mood once again 🙂

Originally, the title of this blog post would have been “3 things I do each morning to start the day on a positive note”. But I’m interested to hear about how YOU do it because I’m sure we can get a few wonderful tips from each other if not, get to know each other a bit more 🙂

I bet most of you have set up your mornings to give you the best headstart. But if not, consider this a good time to think about it.

K?

K!

So let me start with my own 3 –

Open balcony doors to let good chi in.

Our second floor living area is blessed with opposite doors that lead out unto balconies (see blog header for one of those). And the first thing I do every morning is to open both so I can let in the fresh Indonesian early-morning breeze.

Enjoy the moment for a few minutes.

I then step out unto the main balcony for a languid full-body stretch while deep-breathing in the fresh, cool air.  I stay here for a while to take in the rustle of the leaves, the lush green of the trees and lawns, the birds, the beautiful blue sky and the quiet neighborhood.

Brew coffee to fill house with divine aroma.

Then I go down to brew a magic elixir. I get a kick out of thinking the rich aroma of brewed coffee is what the husband smells upon peeking his head out the bedroom door 🙂 It’s such a perk-me-up in its own right don’t you (fellow coffee lovers)  think? 🙂

And those are my first 3 – it gets a bit hectic after that 🙂 But these moments are mine alone and they are a welcome prelude to the rest of the day.

Now it’s YOUR turn –

What are some of the things YOU do each morning to start your day right? Fire up my comments section with your welcome chatter 😀

Make it a wonderful weekend, y’all! ❤

  1. Sounds lovely 🙂 It’s still pretty chilly on my Canadian mornings so I usually pile on something warm when I get up, turn up the thermostat, and drink a glass of lemon water and a large cup of Yorkshire tea! That and my iPad and a slow start to the day and I’m a happy camper.

  2. Yes! That sounds good to me! but with a 1yr old and 3 yr old my mornings start hectic from the moment my eyes are (prised) open. I do like to 1. Drink warm lemon water, 2. cuddle my kids (and husband), before starting the day 🙂

  3. Well, lately, with my injured back, it has been get up, get a hot, hot shower, turn on the coffee and then sit with an ice pack and visit with all my blogging and facebook friends 🙂 I would love a balcony to go out on and take in the sun and have my coffee while lost in my thoughts. Sounds wonderful!

  4. Your morning routine sounds great! Well, except for the first part. I live in a cold climate, so opening my windows in the morning would probably lead to hypothermia. Maybe one day I’ll live in a place where the air doesn’t hurt my face..

Anyway, here’s my general morning routine:
    1. Muster up the courage to get out of bed and expose myself to the cold air (see above)
    2. Eat something – anything – to get the metabolism flowing (and generate body heat)
    3. Shave
    4. Do some form of exercise for at least 30 mins.
    5. Eat more. Much more.
    6. COFFEE. Usually I make it with a French press, but on days when I have enough time I’ll make Turkish coffee.
    7. Check blog/respond to comments/read some followers’ posts. Sometimes I have to postpone this till after work.

Some variations on the above steps:
    1. During those three sacred months when mornings are warm I can skip steps 1 & 2.
    2. When my schedule allows it I head to a coffee shop and do some serious reading/writing as early as possible. These are my favorite days.

  5. Well, of course some days are better than others ha ha, but I stand beside the bed and have a full body stretch. Then I pad down to the kitchen where the cats await their morning cuddle and food before being allowed out for a stroll. Then the tea kettle goes on for a brew. First cup of the day is always the best.

  7. My morning routine is: get kisses from my dog who is ready for her walk; make my bed and open the curtains to let the sunshine in; take said dog for a walk; brew some tea and wait for the day to begin. Sitting here on a chilly morning, dreaming of your lovely balcony!

  8. First look at my phone to know what time it is (it can be 06:00 am or 09 or even 01:00 pm – yes madness abounds here 🙂 ) then stretch like a cat ; put on some warm clothes (my house is bloody cold and I like to sleep in a t-shirt) ; greet my dogs in the kitchen and raise the shades hopefully to a sunny day ; and then have breakfast , the best meal of the day 😀

  9. Great post! I’m in sunny Australia so am not having difficulties with the cold at the moment!
    My morning routine is:
    1. An hour of exercise to get the blood flowing
    2. Delight in breakfast (I tend to create an interesting meal as I have the time in the mornings) and the accompanying coffee (of course!)
    3. Read a couple of papers – normally the New York Times and The Gaurdian.
Then I’m prepared for the day!!

  10. I’m certainly a morning person so I’m happy to hop out of bed when my alarm rings 🙂 this week I’ve set my alarm 15 minutes earlier so I can squeeze in a short yoga practise (will see if this routine sticks!). Then it’s a cup of tea and a filling breakfast to set me up for the rest of the morning!
Wish I could open the windows for fresh air and a cool breeze but it would also allow in all the street noise 😦 a downside to central city living!

  12. Sounds lovely!
Mine is a few stretches, drag on my clothes and run down with the dogs to let the hens out. If no one’s still in the house laying I get the pleasure of carrying back a couple of eggs.

  13. Man, your followers comments had me in stitches. Ha ha ha. My usual routine 1. Look at phone to see time. 2. Pillow time with Jesus (a minute or two… depends on what time the phone says) 3. Look back at phone drag, body out of bed and hope I could fast forward the morning routine and get to be alone when son and husband leaves.
By this time I usually realize I’m spending too much time day dreaming and not enough time preparing them so they could actually leave and I can finally have the house all to myself for a few hours.

  14. This sounds just like me! Only thing is I have a little 16 month old bundle of joy following me around! Hopefully he can learn something from me and let that good chi into his life also!
Also, thanks for the like on my first real post!

  15. Hmm. Well, if it is a good day, I get up and stare out of my window for a few moments to realize that I will be taking in what’s outside that day. It allows me to clear my head. Then I’ll go and make a nice big breakfast (because I’m a foodie) and watch any morning shows I have. Lastly, I go sit outside and take in nature for a few moments, just to know that I at least spent some time with her. 🙂
Sidenote: L-O-V-E this new background with the balloons! 😀
