My version of the solid granny square bag is finally done-done-dooooone! š
I’ve never had a bag like this before. Well for starters, it’s crochet, and I made it myself ā¤
It’s also roomy, in a stretchable and unencumbered-by-partitions sort of way. Perfect for those times when you have lots to carry and you don’t want to be saddled with multiple bags – or better yet, when you want to save the environment and just say “no” to those plastic/tote bags that come with your purchased item šš
I made it in black and gray so it would go well with most any style/color of clothing. I made the handles wider, out of rows of 4 dc instead because I didn’t want them to cut into my shoulders as the bag would get heavier. I also made the handles a bit longer so I can also carry the bag across the body, and I can tie them up top if I want them shorter.
I’m lovin’ it! ā¤ ā¤ And it was pure, mindless crochet. You know, you don’t have to look at a pattern or count or anything, you just make your hands do the work!
One of the advantages of “mindless crochet” is the opportunity to learn something new while working at it. For instance, I learned a bit more about the art of seduction while crocheting this bag š š
And so on … just let your YouTube TEDx Talks run its course XD XD
Have you ever done a crochet project that was ‘mindless’? What did you occupy your mind with while working at it?
Create happy! ā¤
That’s an awesome bag! I want to get better at crocheting because I’m really pretty terrible… I turned to cross stitch instead.

Oh just start from where you are and keep practicing. Not all my projects turn out right XD But I keep at it because that’s the only way to get better š It’s fun and you’ll be proud of whatever project you accomplish ā¤ I hope you can give it another try sometime.

I will try again! My great-grandmother was an expert and she made us all beautiful afghan blankets and someday I’d like to be able to do that š

That’s good to hear š Good luck, maybe let me know how it turns out š ā¤

Wow this turned out beautiful! I’m going to have to try this pattern! And I love mindless crochet, although these days I only dream about it. Life is busy. I miss hibernating in my house the entire weekend with a crochet hook, yarn and hot cocoa. But the craft lives on and so does my love of it. It may only amount to one row a day, but a little here and there really does add up. Thanks for sharing! Xoxo

It it really nice! The panda in the bag was adorable as well. I would love to learn how to create something like that someday.

I went in to buy cross stitch supplies today, and stared at all the crochet stuff instead. Any tips on where to find good instructional videos? My friend tried to teach me, but I was terrible…

Yes, beware all those crochet stuff – they can mesmerize! XD XD
Are you new to crochet or do you already have a project in mind? There are lots of tutorials on YouTube. Sometimes one video/instructor is better than another so I sometimes watch a couple before I fully understand something.

That bag is beautiful. I’ve done crocheting in highschool. I remember I made a little bathroom tissue pouch as a project.
What is mindless crocheting? I’m curious.

Oh, I call it ‘mindless’ crochet when the pattern is so easy and basic you solve math problems in your head while crocheting XD XD Or you know, maybe listen to the news. No need to glance at patterns or count stitches and stuff like that …

Great bag! It will be great to have on your shopping trips. Love a mindless pattern. I am working on a baby blanket that I thought was mindless. I memorized the pattern, but as I let my hands and mind go, I have made many mistakes and have had to frog this thing so many times! I think I wanted mindless, but I do need to pay some attention, obviously.

LOL! XD I know how frustrating that can be š I hope you get it going smoothly soon enough. And, thanks a lot for the compliment ā¤

that turned out great š I’ve been wanting to make some myself for shopping, but haven’t yet. What keeps me back is the idea that the fabric’ll stretch… too much, so I haven’t made the leap quite yet.
What pattern did you use? Did I miss the link somewhere?

Thanks! š Try polyester yarn as it is stretch and shrink resistant. These local polyester yarns I bought feel pliable but have no ‘give’ unlike other yarns, so I think the bag will hold its shape quite well.
Here’s the pattern https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20rR_DKk0FM

great bag, my attempts at crochet have been fruitless and never mindless
LikeLiked by 1 person
I’m sure they weren’t fruitless, you’ve probably learned something along the way. Even working with a new type yarn or a different size hook is a learning experience for me š

I can make a straight chain š Everything else comes out all wobbly.

LOL! But at least you can hold the hook well enough to make the chain. I know others who can’t even hold the hook right š It takes patience but it’s worth it.
