And she shall be a teacher ❤ ❤ ❤
I did it everyone! I finally, finally finished my very first sweater – as a matter of fact (wags pointer finger obnoxiously in your face 😉😉) my very first knitted project!
Ta-daaaaah! (Sorry for the picture quality, it’s been one rainy day after the other over here):
And I shall name her “Eve”!
(Loud thunder clap proclaims the Universe’s approval!😀😀)
Eve is a very effective teacher because she has quite a few imperfections – shall I say instead – wonderful lessons that I couldn’t have learned otherwise. See here:
Loose ending (last) stitches at both sides of the neck opening:
Misaligned rows (ehehehehe! 😀😀)
Shoulder seaming that needs to be done cleaner moving forward:
There’s also the underside of one sleeve that I seamed differently — not with the mattress stitch but rather with some kind of alien stitch form from outer space — and the result is … ehehehehe! 😀😀 (I’m not showing a picture here because my pride cannot take anymore embarrassment! 😀😀😀😀)
But I love her! 💘💘💘
Eve’s style is loose and is supposed to be worn over body-fit tops. He sleeves are 3/4ths in length which is perfect for when you just find rolling up sleeves to be such a hassle.
When I decided to go for a sweater as my introduction to knitting I knew I couldn’t set my standards too high. Other than choosing a very simple beginner’s pattern, I had to accept beforehand that the finished product would be far less than perfect and that I would probably only wear it at home or to the corner boulangerie at most.
(This picture in my head is not in Indonesia of course but somewhere the climate is conducive to wearing sweaters. Although Indonesians do wear sweaters and jackets despite the very hot climate … I’ll never understand why or how they manage but, I digress 😀😀).
So, that’s Eve for you and I’m very pleased (and relieved) about how she turned out anyways. 😄😄
I also managed to crochet another shell bag as a de-stresser in between all that seaming 😂😂😂
Not bad eh? 😀 😀
Lastly, check out my amazing dance moves in my celebratory dance:
I slay it each time! 😉😎😉
Well done! Looks great to me 🙂
It’s funny how the imperfections in our own work always seem so obvious. After I’d completed (and sweated blood over) a few knitting projects, I was shocked to look at the quality of knitted items being sold in shops. They were charging actual money for things that I would have spent days trying to fix! Then I realised that when you’re wearing the garment, no one notices those imperfections. And of course, wearing them is the whole point 😉

Thanks so much, Gloria 🙂 ❤ And, really?! Knowing that makes me feel much more relaxed about knitting sweaters 😀 Not only will my skill improve but my eyes will be oblivious to little flaws moving forward ❤ 😀

Great job! I can’t believe it’s your first attempt at knitting, you really have a knack! Do you like knitting better than crochet?

Thanks so much! ❤ 🙂 I'm just bold (read: a bit daft) like that I guess XD XD
My first love will always be crochet because its so versatile and beginner friendly. For sweaters though I prefer knitting 😀

woohoo, go Paardje! Look at your lovely sweater! I think you did a tremendous job for your very first knitting project. I’ve certainly done far worse, and that was only a scarf (pictures do not exist, but trust me on this, it was baaaaad). Congrats, hon!

LOL! XD Thanks so much Karin ❤ Sincerely appreciate the kind words ❤
I'm salivating over lace knitting lately. I wonder how THAT will affect my sanity. LOL! XD XD

A sweater for my husband using circular needles! Already I tried casting on and knitting the first row in the round last night. 3X I tried, with NO success XD XD Obviously I need to spend some time watching YouTube tutorials today XD

Twisted the stitches, I’m guessing? It can be tricky. Take your time and make sure you straighten your stitches before you join them. Maybe try a few times on a smaller scale so it’s less frustrating? Granted, it becomes fussier the bigger it is, but the practice might help

Twisted it like it’s nobody’s business! LOL! XD
After another failed attempt this morning (and running out of expletives) I finally decided to cast on using a regular straight needle and then to use the circulars starting with the next row. It helped in that I got the number of stitches right, got the rib stitch right, it wasn’t twisted anymore and the join-gap (it’s still there!) is much smaller. I don’t know if this will have some sort of ripple effect as I move forward though. There doesn’t seem to be any (so far) XD Phew!
I inhaled 3 huge slices of pizza right after! LOL!

You’re welcome. It took me a while to get it right, too, and I was attempting something much smaller than a sweater lol

Wow, congratulations on finishing a rather difficult first knitting project. I tried knitting a scarf once, and gave up LOL! (I might try a loom one day). The sweater looks beautiful, and I’m sure the imperfections are not apparent until they are pointed out. The shell bag is impressive, too. Great job!

Thanks so much B 😀 I almost gave up on this one too – several times even! But I posted it on my blog as a ‘goal’ (for heaven’s sake!) and I didn’t want to backtrack on that XD Maybe next time I should be more careful about posting goals on here! LOL! XD XD

The sweater is lovely. You can be proud. The secret is not to point out the ‘flaws’ to others and they won’t notice.

Yes, that is noted! 😉 XD Thanks so much Nicola ❤ 🙂

Congratulations. No project is perfect and, as the person who made it, you are always aware of imperfections that no one else will ever notice. Now, you just need to find a little boulangerie… or better still, a patisserie!

I think a sweater is very ambitious!! I like the design. I also do not understand sweaters in hot weather but hey to each her own. Kudos!

That’s an amazing first knitting project! You jumped right into the deep end with it and did a fantastic job! Wear her proudly (in the right climate, lol)!

Oh thanks so much for the kind words 🙂 ❤ It did feel like a jump into the deep end while at it but the fun is double because I actually made it 🙂 Am now wrestling with circular needles. The fun never stops! XD XD Thanks so much for dropping by ❤

Eve turned out fabulous!! And I do think that every project is a learning game. We have to learn something all the time in order for us to become better. You learned some wonderful things about Eve and you will remember them with your next project. And that project will probably teach you something that you will remember in a future project. It’s all a learning experience and making beautiful things in the process 😉 Great job and congratulations on your first knitted project.

Thanks a lot, Ginny 🙂 You were the first to say Eve would be a July finish. So thanks to you too for spurring me on 🙂
And you are absolutely right about the learning. My next sweater project uses circular needles and that has proven quite the challenge too! XD But, it keeps it interesting 🙂

My first (and possibly last) knitting project ended up smaller at one end than the other. If I remember correctly, it was supposed to be a scarf, but it never quite fit around my neck either. Good job! I think “Eve” looks fabulous.

A sweater? That’s pretty ambitious. It might be easier if I possessed adjustable arms to stick in those sleeves. : )
