Is Your Blog In A Rut?

coffee-2354892_960_720Mine is!ย And it bothers me ๐Ÿ™„

So okay I’m 7 months pregnant and I can’t be into a lot of stuff because I should be taking it easy, which also means less things to blog about.

My interests of late has also gone to pregnancy specific topics from post-delivery recovery to breastfeeding … and I don’t want to blog about those ๐Ÿค”

But I want to blog, because blogging is a life saver for me. Every single like and comment is precious human interaction. The act of putting my thoughts out there not only cathartic and soothing but also, undeniably fun.

Ergo, I am not having a lot of fun lately by allowing my blog to fall by the wayside.

We need a remedy.

Blog Events/Challenges

There was a time in the not-so-distant past when I participated in a few weekly blog challenges. They were always fun, thought provoking, and guaranteed my blog had fresh content every week. They definitely get your blog out of any rut it might be in!

So off I went to WP’s Events page to see if I could fish a few that would light my fire. Here are just 3 I’m considering at the moment:

Weekly Smile #WeeklySmile

๐ŸŒˆย  The Weekly Smile/Wednesdays – simply share something that made you smile that week.

๐ŸŒˆย  Weekly Small Pleasures/Sundays – you guessed it ๐Ÿ˜‰, it’s about the small things/pleasures that made you happy that week

๐ŸŒˆย  Share Your World/Mondays – answer random questions each week and share your world in the process

And since cultivating an attitude of gratitude is such a huge happiness booster, I’m also quite interested in the following gratitude-focused events:

Processed with Rookie

๐ŸŒˆย  My Gratitude Project/Wednesdays

๐ŸŒˆ Thankful Thursday/Thursdays

๐ŸŒˆ Ten Things of Thankful/Saturdays and Sundays

There are definitely more events to choose from and you can even narrow them down by topic of interest, such as books, photography or running.

Craft Related Events?

I didn’t find craft related events on there though, which is a bummer because, as someone who’s into crochet and knitting, I’d like something that encourages me to create.ย  I am aware of WIP (work in progress) Wednesdays for crocheters and knitters (only?) and FO (finish off) Fridays.ย  Is there anything else of the kind out there?

Of course, you can always create your own blog challenges, but it’s a lot more fun if you do it with others ๐Ÿ˜Š

What Blog Events Are You Participating In?

I’d like to get your suggestions if you’re a participant (or have been) in a blogging event. What was it and what did you like about it?

Also, I suspect that not all events are listed on the WP Events page and you might know about them. Do share! I might like some of them enough to join and, you’d be doing me a favor ๐Ÿ˜Š

  1. maybe a little ๐Ÿ˜‰ I haven’t had a ton to discuss, either, especially craft-wise lately, but I figure it’s all part and parcel of blogging/life. I didn’t know about those challenges, seems interesting. (also, if you would like to, you’d be welcome to do a guest post on my blog, might spur you into crafting?)

    1. Oh do check them out! You might walk away with a couple that strikes your fancy ๐Ÿ˜‰

And I shall give the guest posting some thought – such a compliment! ๐Ÿ˜˜

      1. Oh! I just never thought people would want to contact me! LOL! ๐Ÿ˜† Hmmm … I should give that some thought too. Thanks, Karin ๐Ÿ˜Š โค๏ธ

  2. I had no idea that WordPress had these “Events.” I have learned something new. Certainly, if you’re finding it hard to come up with things to blog about, there are some good ideas there. (I tend to yak about anything and have no trouble with material, but I will go check out the options.)
I’ve seen Hooking on Hump Day (crochet on Wednesday), FO Friday, WIP Wednesday. Today is Granny Square Day on Instagram, though I don’t do Instagram.
    Have a good day! Nicola

    1. Delighted I could share something new ๐Ÿ˜„ I’m sure you’ll find something interesting on the WP Events page … or perhaps suggest one of your own? ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Link up parties are interesting too – as long as it inspires and motivates you to blog ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t think I’ve tried them yet though. I should look into that.

Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts โค๏ธ

  3. I really love the Wednesday smile one, because that sounds like something simple. Sometimes it’s hard to write a long post unless we really have something to say…
And I LOVE the gratitude one, because I believe when we are in a rut, changing our mindset to what we are grateful for is one of the best ways to get out of the rut. Thanks for sharing these! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Agree, the simpler the better. They also serve to balance our posts, I mean, you have the more serious, reflection type ones and then you have these fun ones just for a change of pace. Makes blogging even more fun (and manageable) ๐Ÿ˜€

And you said it best: changing our mindset to what we are grateful for is one of the best ways to get out of the rut.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on this ๐Ÿ™

  4. I am perpetually in a blog rut… or just incapable of dedicating the time I’d like to making my blog what I wish it was. I might actually stay up past 8 p.m. to try out some of these events, though. Thanks! (Five months pregnant here… so very much relating.)

    1. LOL! ๐Ÿคฃ Hi, Reanna ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks so much for commenting โค๏ธ I’ve realized that if I allow myself to be too lazy, it won’t just be my blog that suffers but I as well because blogging is actually quite the fun activity (and we can do it while expecting!). I mean, once or twice a week is manageable, I think I just need a prompt to start the ball rolling ๐Ÿ˜‰

All the best on your pregnancy journey – 5 months is like, a breather before the ‘heavy hippo months’ ๐Ÿ˜… โค๏ธ

  5. There are a few other events I’m aware of, but I haven’t been participating in any except for WIP Wednesdays and the occasional FO Friday (when I do actually have any FO ๐Ÿ˜…). There is Three things Thursdays, to share three things you’re grateful for, motivation Mondays, for motivational quotes and memes, Wordless Wednesdays, when you post a picture without words, Follow Fridays, to promote some other people’s work (it’s more of an instagram thing but it could definitely apply to blogs).
I do hope you find inspiration, I really enjoy reading you ๐Ÿ˜Š

  6. I know how you feel – I can’t remember the last time I posted! I simply don’t have time for it even though I love blogging. I’m also starting studying this Fall, so it’s going to be even worse. So exciting with your pregnancy! xx

  7. I enjoy reading your words. Sounds kinda creepy if I were to just leave it like that, but I mean it, so I guess I’m actually gonna just leave it. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Lol. The art of eloquency is becoming increasingly lost- but you have a gift! You’re delightfully honest-your messages are always tangible and engaging! I look forward to reading more and more from you!!
