Avoiding A & B Has Led Me To C: An Almost-FO Friday Post πŸ˜

A is for Anne

“Anne” is basically finished. I finished her last month already and yet, she still sleeps inside her project bag awaiting the day when I will finally perform the finishing touches that will move her from WIP to FO.

Is there anyone else out there who procrastinates when tucking-in tails & seaming? Please tell me I’m not the only one! 😁

B is for Black’s a Bitch

I do not know what I was thinking. As a lover of lace motifs, I let feelings overrule logic and set out to crochet an obscure “something wearable”Β  made out of black lace motifs – which aren’t even square to begin with and hence, require the invention of a filler motif.

Imagine the gazillion tails that I will need to tuck away eventually πŸ€ͺ Plus, working with black yarn is very difficult for when you need to correct something and have to unravel. #Crazy! πŸ€ͺ Already I burned through my supply of this yarn and will have to purchase more if I want to finish.

What I learned: motifs really use up a lot of yarn due to their tails – 2 eachΒ πŸ€ͺ 😁

And finally ~

C is for (Creative) Constipation 🀭

I recently bought this beautifully variegated crochet thread that I was very excited to crochet a table centerpiece with. Well, 3 failed centerpieces later and I realize the variegation just doesn’t lend itself well to anything ornate such as a table center. The thread colors interfere with the ornate design creating a visually noisy item.

I wish I took a picture of it before unraveling so you could see what I mean but, here’s the thread up close:

Hmmm … I’m feeling a bit defeated today but I’m aiming at finishing at least one of them for next Friday.

This is nothing but a temporary dry spell, nothing that a jolt of Pinterest can’t cure, yes? πŸ˜‰

How about you, how do you get yourself started again when experiencing a creative block?

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! 😘

  1. Ugh, I’m there right now. I have one WIP that I’m avoiding because I freaking hate weaving in ends, & piecework means double the fun weaving in the tails.
Then there’s the quarter finished set of cleaning implements I’m working on for display at work as examples of the stuff I’m going to offer for sale. I’m just not feeling it.
Then there’s the variegated bulky yarn I bought thinking “ooh, a giant doily style rug would be fun in this yarn”. And I’m running into the same issue you’re having. I can’t find a pattern that has enough sections of solid stitches to let the variegation do its thing. It’s a fun, bright, bold colored yarn that’s kind of perfect for the eclectic pops of color I’m doing in most of my house, but I think I’m going to have to order a lot more of it and make one of those floor poofs.

I seem to be hijacking your post. Sorry, but I wanted you to know you’re not alone even though we’re on opposite sides of the planet.πŸ˜™

    1. 🀣🀣 It’s always a great day whenever I see a comment from you, Cynthia 😘

Anyways, what to do, eh? Unfinished projects will just weigh us down. Put in a reward system …? I’m thinking a ski-vacation in Switzerland ought to do it 🀣

I still have faith in us though. We can do this πŸ‘ŠπŸ‘ŠπŸ˜

  2. I love that black motif thing! But, it did remind me of a project still hiding in a bag. Years ago, I was small and thin and wanting to wear something festive for a party. My grandma had a dress (or someone!) with sequins on the bodice and a tailored skirt. I fell in love with it. The sequins needed replaced, but I didn’t care! It was soo pretty.

It was soo much work! I had no idea how much work trying to replace sequins on the bodice of a black dress would be. And today’s sequins are not at all as sturdy as the ones from the 40’s and 50’s. I pull it out from time to time and look at it. I can’t get my left thigh in the waist now, but it still reeks of magic and fun! (and those darn threads…..)

      1. Black is a sexy color, projects are like a large pizza. My projects (eyes) are often bigger than my ambitions (tummy). I need to look at new projects with the mindset of β€˜is this probable, plausible, or completely out in left field?’

      2. I agree! And I will never give up on black πŸ’˜ 😁 This project has definitely schooled me. There’s a comment below which has gotten me thinking in the right direction, about whether or not I want to spend so much time tucking in tails or am I best spending that time on something else. Like you, I’ll definitely be more prudent in choosing projects from here onwards πŸ€”

    1. Really? Aww, thank you for the encouragement 😘 πŸ˜€

I’ve already worked a filler motif between the panels though and, like I said, unraveling’s a bitch 😟 I found another filler motif design that might have come out better than the first but … aah, well … πŸ˜–

      Progress, not perfection πŸ˜ƒ

  3. UGH!! Yes I have a WIP that I’ve put aside for a year. It’s also a lacy, square motif, meant to be a pullover top, and I put it on half way thru, and the darn thing just doesn’t hang right, sags and bags and slips off the neck.

Yes, ends and tails are a BIG hassle, but this stupid thing… I just don’t know what to do with, and I’ve used up about six balls of cotton string yarn already… 😦

    1. I feel you, sister! πŸ’Ÿ One of my apprehensions is also that, once done, it won’t come up to my expectations. Maybe this is why I’m also dallying on this project.

But, so I tell myself, how else am I going to learn? Everything’s on the net but I don’t know what I don’t know until I make something imperfect. Sometimes experience just is the best teacher, isn’t it? (Ok, it stings a bit less now that I’m typing this πŸ˜†).

And … a year definitely sounds just about right 🀣 If it’s in one solid color maybe you can turn it into a table center? 😁

      1. LOL! Oh, yes, we do think alike! I have seriously considered turning it into a couple of doilies, or something. Oh, well, when I have absolutely nothing else to do, I’ll figure something out. Hang in there!!!

  4. I now weave in ends as I go, but with so many ends, I have a feeling I’ll spend more time tidying ends than making motifs, and I’d rather make something else. But the motifs are so pretty… And we’re back to square one. πŸ˜‰

    1. 🀣 I tried weaving in ends as I went at the start of the project, but making the motifs were much more fun so I ended up accumulating tails again πŸ˜€

      1. I know, I’m still mourning over you and Jorge 😒 And oops, I didn’t even check the date when that was published! (I did not intend to stir up old memories 🀫). Have you been to Indonesia already?

      2. Do you already follow my blog and know about Jorge or did you just read the story about him? We broke up many months ago but don’t worry, he’s often on my mind because I miss him so much. Regarding Indonesia, I have it been but I really do hope to visit there in the future!

      3. I usually read a few posts first before I follow a blog – and now I’m laughing about “the Damien” πŸ˜„ Can’t even stand the scent of that fruit. Ok, I think I’ll follow you now. I like blogs that have a cheerful disposition about them πŸ˜€

  5. You’re not alone on the task of finishing. I just finished blocking a top that I intend to wear even though I still have several ends to weave in. Can’t wait at longer 😊.

Those crotchet flowers are very lovely. I love them.

  6. the black lace’ll be worth it in the end, I think.

Have you checked the yarn on Ravelry? If someone has already used it, it should show under projects and might give you some ideas

    1. I think it’ll do very well with any solid-fabric type project. It’ll soon tell me what to do with it πŸ˜ƒ The black lace will be resurrected soon, I hope 😁
