The Introvert Expat SAHM Diaries

July 15: Mindful Monday

Hey guys! ❤ Happy Monday to y’all!

Listen, I know I had set myself the mini-assignment this week of making crochet earrings. I’m still interested in doing that however, today I woke up feeling I needed to rearrange the way I spend my days.

I spent my entire weekend reading up on vision improvement & it was plain to see (!) that, if I wanted my eyes to get stronger instead of weaker, I needed to lessen the time I spent on crochet and incorporate other activities into my days.

Two that are of particular importance to me right now is exercise (for the body) & exercises for my eyes. For the latter, I need to be outdoors to take time to look into the distance and notice movement & details.

So this is kind of where I’m at this morning 🙂 I just finished my beginner Pilates video for the day – the 3rd of a beginner series – and thinking about how to incorporate outdoors time on a daily basis.

The crochet might have to wait a while but I’m sure I’ll get back to it soon – you’ll be the first to know! 🙂

I’ll see you guys tomorrow.

early-morning-299735_960_720

Hello sexy people! 😎 It’s Share Your World time again and … I might skip the next few after this as I’m expected to give birth this weekend 🤗🤗🤗 Wish me luck and do send me your warmest, most positive vibes 😁💓

If you were given the opportunity to ride in a helicopter would you go?

I’m scared of heights. But I did pay for a short helicopter ride when I was still single. I think I was still dating my husband then and you know how it goes, those love-hormones messing up with your brain like that … I even wanted to learn how to fly a plane at the time!!! 😱 Imagine that!

Anyhoot, the experience was absolutely exhilarating! It was one of those tiny choppers, seats 4 (maybe 5) including the pilot, and had glass walls (do you call them walls?). Imagine that! 😱

And now back to the question – no, I would not go. The love-hormones are in check now, thank you very much! 🤣🤣

What are some of your favorite type of proteins to eat? (meat, seafood, eggs, soy, cheese, nuts)

Cheese all the way! 💘 Although right now this question makes me think of my terrible heartburn & indigestion. I like eggs as well but they too have been giving me heartburn and indigestion lately.

What would be your preference, awake before dawn, at dawn, or awake before noon?

Awake before dawn or at dawn. Early mornings are my absolute favorite part of the day 💖💖💖

What inspired you or what did you appreciate this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

This video 👇 Although it’s still quite early for me to worry about aging and how to cope with it, I do like to learn from those who’ve gone before me. However, the one thing that really stayed with me was her story about how, when she and her husband were out on a date, and they both saw this woman of about the same age as her sitting at the next table, she asked her husband if he found that woman to be attractive. And he said “yes”, because she’s (that woman) happy.

This blew my mind! Because yes, absolutely! You can be the most beautiful woman in the world, but if there’s no happiness in those eyes of yours, or if your “perfect” face and features look empty or cold or passive, then you’re not truly beautiful. You’re just nice to look at. So give me a happy person any time of day, she will always be radiant no matter what 😍

Then there’s this blog post:

Boredom: It Takes You To Places

I mean, how this dude used boredom to develop a slew of impressive skills is absolutely motivating! I recommend you give it a read 👍

What is your favorite outdoor activity?

I’m not an outdoorsy person but I 💖, 💖, 💖 just being under the night sky.

Every evening sometime after dinner or right before turning in for bed, I go out and just walk in leisurely circles  while contemplating life.  I stop to stare at the moon if there is one, or the stars, or I follow the lights of a passing airplane and then resume my circles while appreciating the peace and calm that envelops me.

At first I used to worry about what the neighbors would think because I’m not exactly walking for exercise or anything, just slowly going about in circles 😀 But after a while I assume they get used to it and move on to more interesting things 😁

I feel confined if I am not able to do this activity regularly enough.

In a car would you rather drive or be a passenger?

Image result for funny images about driving

Passenger. I hate driving 😐 I have consistently answered this question “what would you buy if you won the lottery” with “a driver” for many, many centuries now 🙃 😉

If you could have three wishes granted for you alone, what would they be?

Hmmmmm ….

Ok, in no particular order, they’d be ~

  • I’d give birth today, effortlessly, smoothly, safely, quickly … I’ve been feeling really fed up about the sleepiness, indigestion, heartburn and bricks-for-feet lately (among other 3rd tri woes 🙁🙁🙁)
  • Everything I need to order online arrives by the end of the day, shipped absolutely free of charge
  • I’d know how to speak Indonesian like the locals

What inspired you or what did you appreciate this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

A recipe for an easy-peasy Microwave Nutella Mug Cake! 😍

Can you say “instant blockbuster“?! 😆 I don’t even have to call them to the table once the mug cake’s done, and I’m never met with a “no” when I ask if they’d like me to make some 😆

I just knew I hit gold when the hubs came home with vanilla ice cream last night (for topping), and the daughter volunteered to make it when I said I was feeling too tired for it 🤗

It’s super quick and easy to make, and the house smells divine to boot! Win!

I love this week’s SYW questions ❤️ Here we go:

Complete this sentence: I want to learn more about …

  • Aromatherapy and how I can use it at home. I’ve already finished an online course but it seemed to have just skimmed the surface.
  • Gardening, particularly container gardening, taking care of flowering plants, herbs. And by extension, making terrariums. One at a time of course 😄
  • Photography. I’ve put this off for ages and ages now. This one’s probably for next year considering I’m about to give birth.
  • Cooking/expanding my culinary repertoire. I’m afraid this one’s reached emergency status now.  I keep cooking the same 5 or so recipes and relying on take-outs for variety.  (My family’s been very forgiving because I’m pregnant and all). Then I got really bored with my recipes and my yen for cooking just went out the window as a result. So I’m seriously thinking about this and WILL BUY AN OVEN. Because, can you believe it? I’ve NEVER even owned an oven in my entire life! 😱😱😱
  • Close on the heels of previous bullet point – baking!
  • Crochet – Filet, Irish, tapestry, thread, and creating warm weather garments.
  • The Indonesian language. I’m gonna give birth any time now and perhaps the only word of relevance that I understand is “dorong” (“push”) 😅. I also took an online course for this – which was actually  pretty good – but the problem is the retention. I’ve since observed that I retain more if I learn the words that I need at the moment – like when I have to ask the housekeeper to do something. My brain just won’t give space to something I don’t need. In addition, there’s a notable difference between the Indonesian you learn formally vs. the Indonesian actually spoken.  Another reason I prefer to learn from the housekeeper 😁
  • Basic sewing. So I can make my own sassy pillowcases & curtains and anything else that’s just a rectangular piece of fabric with just a little embellishment ❤️❤️

On a vacation what would you require in any place that you sleep?

Comfortable bed & temperature. No noise. No lights. No unpleasant smells.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Online shopping and having it shipped via DHL📦📦. Although this one’s straddling the fence between extravagance and necessity because this has to do with our present location.

For instance, when shopping for clothes, my 10 y.o. daughter has to look in the adults section already. Never mind me and my husband. Finding comfortable footwear is difficult at best, so we’ve taken to buying ours in Singapore. Last night we couldn’t find self-rising flour in the grocery department of their biggest, most recognized as high-end, mall. I mean, maybe they ran out of it but that’s my point, there’s not one single place where you can safely say they have everything, sometimes you have to explore other stores in search of an item and even then it’s hit and miss.

There are no English books here so I have to have them shipped from Amazon/Book Depository. I buy our supplements online as well, all the maternity clothes I’m wearing ….

I wish I’d bookmarked it! It was an article from a homemaking blog that talked about the reasons why the author makes herself up even when she’s just at home for days on end. That piece really spoke to me because I have been wallowing in frumpsville for the longest time now – thank goodness nobody from my previous corporate life can see me! 🤣

She made all the right arguments, including the very true fact that it sets a positive tone for the day and makes you more productive.

So now I take my showers in the morning before breakfast, get out of my sleeping clothes into nice daytime wear, swap my glasses for contacts, fix my hair, wear liner, lipstick, earrings and perfume 😁😁😁

Well, that last part might be overkill but then again, why not? 😘

Share Your World – September 11, 2017

Howdy sexy people! 👋

I’ve been under the weather this past week – cough and colds but, fortunately feeling better now 😃 Glad to come back to the blog with this week’s installment of Share Your World.

Would you want $200,000 right now or $250,000 in a year? It’s safe to assume all money is tax free.

Right now so husband will have fun making it grow through his day trading.

Is it more important to love or be loved?

Oh good, it only asks which one is more important, I don’t have to choose between the two 👍 ☺️

I think to love is more important as long as you love from a place of giving and not from sacrifice or with the expectation of returns. If love is freely given like this, there is happiness and contentment that is independent of external circumstances.

I also believe that if you give love, love comes back to you as well.

List things that represent abundance to you.

Money (I mean, hey, just being honest here 😂 😂).  If you have money then you basically have the ability to take better care of yourself and loved ones.

I would also list having (a) family, true friends, good health of course, freedom, safety and being able to live where you feel the happiest.

What inspired you this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

Oh, I got a few really nice blessings this week:

  • I got a visit from 2 good friends (from Batam) who happen to be pregnant too and we got a good laugh out of it.
  • My daughter had her period, which was a surprise to me because she’s only 10. I thought it was a good time to talk to her about how babies are made and well, at the end of the talk her reaction was an emphatic “eeeeeeuuww! GROSS!!!” 😅  I’m just gonna savor that for now 😁
  • I got a long distance call from my best friend from home and it did wonders for my soul. It’s very difficult to maintain friendships when you live far far away and already a few have sorta gone cold. Fortunately this one has endured till now and hopefully we can keep the bond strong ❤️
  • One of my plants is coming up with blooms! Yay 💃💃I’m not too hopeless after all 😄
  • My stomach is giving me some relief from indigestion and acid reflux. I still need to be careful, but I’ve been able to sleep better. I tell ya, ya haven’t known misery until ya’ve experienced the tantrums of a 3rd tri pregnant woman’s tummy 🤢🤢🤢

old plants

Participating in this week’s SYW prompt 😃 It’s already Tuesday here in Indonesia but this is when I get to see the questions, so … and technically it should still be Monday evening in some parts of the world anyways 😁

So here we go:

What colour do you feel most comfortable wearing?

Right now in my pregnant state almost all pieces are black. There’s one blue, one gray, one white and one silver – because they did not come in black and I really needed them. A dress for special occasions is green, but this was lent to me by my cousin.

The moment I learned I was pregnant I right away chose black to be my colour because I didn’t want to invest in a lot of pregnancy clothes. Nobody can truly be sure that today I’m wearing the same top that I wore last Saturday. And that’s my point! 😆 😆 Black also does a fine job hiding the flab and making me look pulled together somehow 👍

What is your favourite type of dog?

One that can take care of itself 🙄

List at least five favourite flowers or plants?

I can’t! I don’t know their names 😆 Besides, I love all plants as long as they’re healthy, happily blooming and have no desire to take over my house with their roots and unwieldy leaves. Flowering plants are the best, but they’re also high maintenance in my experience.

This is a very timely question because lately I have become interested in buying (and caring for) potted plants.  The picture at the top of this post was taken when my plants first came home. I don’t have a green thumb, so by now of course, a few have already given up all hope of survival and still a few are struggling to make sense of their situation 😆

These 3 beauties I just bought last Saturday after my doctor’s appointment:

new plants

I hope they bloom instead of giving up on me right away 😆 The 3rd one on the right is my favorite – it seems to be a very resilient plant and I usually see them at resorts, al fresco restos, hotels and golf courses in various lovely colors:

What inspired you this past week?

These plants I just featured. It’s always exciting to be at the start of a new hobby 🙂

Treat Yourself

on the way

At 34 weeks pregnant, foggy brained with acid reflux & pelvic pain 😵, the last thing I want to do is go on a road trip to somewhere away from the comforts & familiarity of home. But, this is exactly what we did last Saturday.

view from room 1

I realized now was my last time to experience a change in scenery for a very long, long time. I also missed looking out into the infinite horizon and breathing in fresh salty sea air, so I asked the husband if we could stay overnight at a beach resort.

view for lunch

The day was rainy and gloomy, but I got my wonderfully tangy sea air, seafood (I swear the hearty Tom Yum soup silenced my acid reflux for the rest of our stay!😃), and yep, definitely a change of environment 😍

beach villas

My daughter wanted to bathe in the sea and I myself wanted get at least knee-deep into sea water, but a warning about stone fish during low-tide changed our minds (what are stone fish?) 😳😳 So we just sat on the chairs and stared into the horizon.

looking up

This was the view outside our window. My husband and daughter still got to enjoy the pool the following morning while I lounged under a parasol and took pictures of my bloated feet 😄😄😄

view from room 2

night show

There was an al fresco buffet for dinner that evening and some kind of magic show was going on. But by then I was feeling very tired (but contented) and preferred to stay in the air-conditioned room enjoying a banana split 😋

So I guess what I’m trying to say here is: go treat yourself. Whatever it is, big or small, it’s sure to make you smile 🙃❤️
