July 8: Stop/Start Something

Good morning awesome friends! 🌞

It’s a brand new week and I’m excited to continue with my mini-assignments [of the ordinary kind]. I’ve been feeling more purposeful since I started this challenge and I love how blogging about it turns it into a lesson of sorts. The realΒ goalΒ here is to be blogging again, and this self-designed challenge is definitely helping me with that πŸ“Œ

Today’s assignment is to start & stop something. Ideally it should be something permanent, perhaps a habit change, if not at least something I can do for a certain period of time.

I have chosen to:

Stop drinking coffee β˜•οΈ

This is a huge one for me as my morning cuppa is so ingrained into what makes my mornings magical. I look forward to it, I love the warm sensation, and without it my mornings just aren’t the same πŸ’”Β (Because yes, I tried this challenge a few times in the past already).

The reason why I’m “picking on” this wonderful elixir (again) is twofold. One is that I suspect it upsets my stomach, and therefor could be undermining my weight management efforts. And two is because it really does tinker with my energy levels throughout the day & even into the night.

This week I will observe what the absence of coffee does and we’ll see what happens next. (I don’t want to promise anything because my love for it is overwhelmingΒ πŸ˜†πŸ˜†).

Start weighing myself daily ⏲

Just something small that I can use as a reminder to focus on my weight management efforts.

⏲ β˜•οΈ β²Β β˜•οΈ

So! Although I already did these two for today, I realize that the best time to report on this assignment will be on Saturday yet. So I’ll see you guys then.

Tomorrow’s assignment is to (finally) finish my emerald green crochet crop top. I’ll have pictures for you so I’d love it if you checked back in πŸ™‚

Fitness & Vanities

New House New Strategy

front-doorNothing like a new environment to upset the old and bring in the new! πŸ˜ƒ I’m talking about my diet-n-fitness regime here which went through some sort of upheaval last week when I decided to do intermittent fasting, quitting ALL sugar and carbs cold turkey and … hoping that the seas would part for me as it did for Moses 😡😁

Oh and, I also tried butter in my [black] coffee 😬😬😬

Now I’ve NEVER even tried black coffee before. My coffee has always had cream and enough sugar to take most of the bitterness out. But nope, I had to be the madwoman that I (sometimes) am and do everything at the same time! Including buttered coffee o_O

So OF COURSE I had almost zero energy and couldn’t even make it halfway through a Fitness Marshall dance video without feeling totally deflated 😩

(I think the absence of my bats, rats and roaches has gone to my coconut! πŸ™ƒ)

Fortunately I’ve since gathered my marbles 😁 and decided to just focus on ONE thing this week and up until that ONE thing becomes second nature. I’ve decided to focus on intermittent fasting (IF), which for me is until 11AM (the equiv of a 16h fast).

Since this week is already my second week of IF, the struggle is a bit less and black coffee (sans the butter, thank you!) is optional. I just make sure to drink plenty of water and keep myself mentally engaged.

I’m still doing my workouts but I’ve scaled down the intensity and make sure to just do about 30 mins per day.

Why am I doing this, you ask? Good question! 😁

As the title of this blog implies I’m also a vain creature. My vanity is mostly expressed through weight management, looking good in my birthday suit and enhancing the natural. (Nurturing great skin as opposed to wearing lots of make-up, for example).

IF falls into the weight management category obviously. Not that I need to lose weight – although there’s always those pesky last 5 pounds πŸ˜’πŸ˜’ Just that anything that I think will simplify weight management for me is worth the exploration.

And there you have it, my little adventure of the week (or maybe month).

Have any of you guys tried IF (intermittent fasting)? What is/has been your experience of it?

With your answers, please remember we are in the SYW world and which may not always match our reality.

What is your favorite go to beverage? Β Water, coffee, tea, coke, soda (non-alcoholic)

Water.Β  Especially with Indonesia’s hot climate where a glass of cool water can taste like heaven πŸ™‚

Coffee is my absolute favorite ❀️‍ ❀️‍  ❀️‍ Right now though I’m enjoying fruit flavored teas because I’m trying to curb my insomnia.

Can you change a car tire?

No. 😐 πŸ˜‘

Are you a listener or talker?

Hmmm … It really depends on the topic. If it’s not particularly interesting then I find that I tire rather quickly of either talking or listening about it. Fortunately, the opposite is also true! πŸ™‚

Would you rather have no internet or no cell phone?

No cell phone.Β  Life is just more peaceful that way πŸ™‚ I mean, I need a cell phone of course. But in a perfect world it can only make outgoing calls and cannot receive any incoming XD XD Text messages and emails are okay as I want the luxury to respond in my own time.

Plus, the internet is like my lifeline to the rest of the world. And it’s detrimental to whatever social life I have at the moment XD

Bonus question: Β What are you grateful for from last week ~

Last week I decided to lay off on my morning magic elixir (brewed coffee) for an indefinite span of time because I noticed my insomnia was getting worse. This wasn’t an easy decision because I LOVE coffee! 😧 😧 My mornings are just not the same 😒 😒

However. I have been sleeping much much better now. I can actually feel sleepiness settling down on me around bedtime, and I’ve stopped waking up sporadically throughout the night. I’ve started dreaming again and I’m waking up before my alarm sounds ❀ πŸ˜€

(Do not take this to mean I will never drink coffee again though. Nuh-uh! πŸ˜’ πŸ˜’ I just have to come up with a “schedule” of sorts to balance things).

~ and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?Β

Some online purchases πŸ™‚ I need coconut oil for my oil pulling and hair care, some beans for learning how to make chilli and additional yarn for a sweater I’m knitting.

I also plan to try making Indian chapati bread πŸ™‚ Looks easy enough and the husband is enthusiastic about it πŸ™‚

Okay! πŸ˜€ Now what are YOUR answers? πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

What’s Your Feel-Good Song At The Moment?

TGIF y’all! And Happy April Fool’s Day! πŸ˜€ Did you do any pranking? Or were you the one pranked?

Listen, I have a question for you and I want your answers in the comments section. K?

But first, the introduction:

If previous posts are enough indication you all probably know by now early mornings are my absolute favorite part of the day. We (you and I) have exchanged our early-morning routines in this post and learned a bit about each other – always such a treat πŸ˜€

We’ll I’ve recently upped the ante in that department so to speak. I’m now using my feel-good song as my alarm. I used to use this zen-y, slow-rise melody which honestly was a very good choice but, every once in a while you just have to shake things up, no?

So that got me curious about what other people’s feel-good songs are and of course I have to ask the question on my blog πŸ™‚

I shall start the ball rolling with my own happy-ness anthem which izzzz:

Now look me in the eye and tell me if that’s not a great song to begin the day with XD Dancing absolutely recommended πŸ˜€

Okay so it’s now YOUR turn – what’s your feel-good song at the moment? You don’t have to be like me and use it as your morning alarm, just that it makes you smile or places you in a happy/inspired/motivated/peaceful space.

You can give me just one or an entire list. Run with it! I shall be waiting for your answers πŸ™‚ Seriously, I will.

Have a wonderful weekend beautiful people ❀

What’s Your Wake-Up Routine Like?

Hello sexy sun drops! TGIF aaaannnd, it’s time to put ourselves in a “feel-good” mood once again πŸ™‚

Originally, the title of this blog post would have been “3 things I do each morning to start the day on a positive note”. But I’m interested to hear about how YOU do it because I’m sure we can get a few wonderful tips from each other if not, get to know each other a bit more πŸ™‚

I bet most of you have set up your mornings to give you the best headstart. But if not, consider this a good time to think about it.

So let me start with my own 3 –

Open balcony doors to let good chi in.

Our second floor living area is blessed with opposite doors that lead out unto balconies (see blog header for one of those). And the first thing I do every morning is to open both so I can let in the fresh Indonesian early-morning breeze.

Enjoy the moment for a few minutes.

I then step out unto the main balcony for a languid full-body stretch while deep-breathing in the fresh, cool air.Β  I stay here for a while to take in the rustle of the leaves, the lush green of the trees and lawns, the birds, the beautiful blue sky and the quiet neighborhood.

Brew coffee to fill house with divine aroma.

Then I go down to brew a magic elixir. I get a kick out of thinking the rich aroma of brewed coffee is what the husband smells upon peeking his head out the bedroom door πŸ™‚ It’s such a perk-me-up in its own right don’t you (fellow coffee lovers)Β  think? πŸ™‚

And those are my first 3 – it gets a bit hectic after that πŸ™‚ But these moments are mine alone and they are a welcome prelude to the rest of the day.

Now it’s YOUR turn –

What are some of the things YOU do each morning to start your day right? Fire up my comments section with your welcome chatter πŸ˜€

Make it a wonderful weekend, y’all! ❀

Coffee. Love it or hate it?

There once was a time not too long ago when I had crystal clear vision and even levels of relatively high energy throughout the day.Β  Absolutely no trouble sleeping, and no trouble waking up. This is me on no coffee.

But you see, my mornings are never complete without a cuppa, so this state of ‘perfection’ is really not sustainable for extended periods of time.Β  Believe me, I’ve tried.

However my sleeping pattern has been really wacky as of late and along with that comes a fuzzy brain and a roller coaster of cravings + energy highs/lows throughout the day. This is me on coffee. Even if it’s just one cup a day πŸ˜₯

So I’m switching to plain old Lipton tea this week until I get my zen back.Β  (Decaf just makes me sad).

Here’s an infographic I found about the pros and cons of coffee.Β  The pros are quite amazing as you can see but I’m taking those with a grain of salt.Β  I’ve read before that studies like these are funded by coffee makers as a marketing strategy.

What do you think? Are you team coffee?
