Diamond Painting

Bitten By A Sticky-Glittery Bug

Hello my friends! How have you been? I’m doing wonderful! ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŒž

If you were wondering why I was silent it’s because I was bitten by the most wonderful bug ever – Diamond Painting!

DP03

I was looking for something for my daughter to do during the school break and thought to give diamond painting a try. So theeeen ….

Oh. My. Lord.

I’m hooked ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

At first my daughter was tentative, so I got to working on the pattern (?) first. But now she won’t sleep until she’s done a patch or two ๐Ÿ˜† I myself am so enamored with it, so sure that it’s gonna be a passion, that I’m dedicating a page to it on this blog! ๐Ÿ˜†

If you don’t know what Diamond Painting is, I liken it to cross-stitching but you use beads (resins) instead. The result is a really very pretty & glittery picture.

We’re starting our crafty-colorful journey with this cutesy adorable owl which is, as of this post, about 75% done:

… But I’ve got big plans to move on to more intricate pictures. As a matter of fact, it’s taking me a lot of willpower not to do like most DP enthusiasts do – go on a huge diamond painting spree ๐Ÿคฉ

If you happen to love this hobby too, I’d love to hear from you.ย  Do share your experience or some tips that’d be useful for a neophyte enthusiast like me. Likewise, if you blog about diamond painting, do leave a link in the comments section so I can read about your DP adventures too โค๏ธ

WIP It Good! + 3 Minute Headbands

crochet WIPs March 2016

~~~ I will not purchase additional yarn until I finish all my WIP’s. Full stop! ~~~
There, I said it and you are now the (unwilling?) witness to this declaration XD
I can’t be the only one to lack stick-to-it-till-done powers when it comes to crafting/crocheting, am I? ๐Ÿ™„ Clockwise from top: my aqua-metallic infinity cowl, my 3-minute headbands (done!), a bag-purse thingy, and a hat.
I took the above picture over the weekend and I’ve made good progress since then.ย  I think I’ll be done with all of these before next Wednesday rolls around – I want to because I refuse to buy any more yarn or start any new project until these are finished XD
Meanwhile, I was playing with some leftover crochet cotton and my fingers (unbeknownst to my brain!) came up with these very easy-simple headbands.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
I combined 3 random colors for each and crocheted (ch 3, *1dc in 3rd ch from hook, ch 3) until I had the desired length, then fastened off. I left enough thread at the back for the ties.
These 3-minute headbands can be worn in twos or threes (or more), and in whatever color combinations. Just one also looks great on its own. I find it an attractive way to tuck stray hair strands away whenever I have my hair up in a bun. Cute, eh? ๐Ÿ˜‰
Okay I’ll be off to finish the remaining projects now ๐Ÿ™‚ Hook happy!
P.S. Belated International Women’s Day greetings to all you fierce, feisty females out there!ย  โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ’‹โ€ โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ’‹โ€
What do Candy Cascade, Black Widow and Blush Cherry Jam have in common?
They are all crochet projects on hold because I ran out of yarn ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
Gah!
Was I wrong to take on a hobby for which there are no supplies nearby? ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Whenever this happens I have 2 options:ย  a rock and a hard place XD Seriously, either I hop on a ferry to Singapore or I go online.
Both options come with extra costs that I wish I could avoid by walking or driving to a yarn store.ย  Or use to buy more yarn!
But, focusing on the things that I can control: I think the problem is partly because I still have to learn how to estimate yarn usage.ย  I think that comes with experience.
Also, I let the yarn speak to me before I decide what to make ๐Ÿ™„ I believe the better way to go -especially in my situation – would be to identify the project first and then buy the yarn.
Oh well, the crochet must go on! I’m working on Rainbelle at the moment while pondering my yarny situation.
Got any tips for me for making sure I have enough yarn? What do you do when the store itself runs out of the yarn you’re using for your project?
Oh and, more on Rainbelle next week! ๐Ÿ™‚ (Hopefully I can finish her) โค
I’ve Been Drooling …
crochet duckSo now that the move to Indonesia has happened and my family is in one place I am finally taking stock of the domestic life.ย  But let’s set aside the antics that happen in the kitchen for now and focus on something my heart is more fond of – crafting โค
My go-to crafts have always been crochet and cross-stitching but I’ve never had the time to indulge in them as much as I would have wanted to. Now that I have the time freedom to do so however, my hands are itching for a project.ย  Alas, I’ll have to wait until our next trip to Singapore to stock up on required supplies ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
To quench my excitement in the meantime I hopped around on some crochet blogs (cross-stich will come next!) and feasted myself on all the creations and possibilities.ย  Here are just some drool-worthy yarnspirations I found:
Have your own flowers around no matter the season with this absolutely lovely floral blanket from With My Handz.
Are you a Harry Potter fan?ย  Here’s a cutie Dumbledore for your finger by Quill Alley ๐Ÿ™‚
I just love the pineapple stitch design, and here are 2 beautiful projects that use it artfully:ย  in a lacy cover-up found on Crafting While Anxious and as an attractive bicycle skirt guard (of all places!) featured on The Golden Skein.
Here’s a comfy blooming flower cushion just recently completed by Vicki on Vickithecraftaholic.
How about a mesmerizing Sophie’s Universe CAL project (yay, a new addition to my crafting vocab: Crochet ALong) over at Connie’s Creations.
And just look at the bedazzling colors and creations over here at Weaving Art.ย  Inspirational, no?ย  I especially love the flower ๐Ÿ™‚
Speaking of colors, I lost myself swimming in a bright sea of it over here at Babylovebrand.
I found a lot more but had to stop as my stomach was angry for some food. LOL!ย  I can’t wait to get my supplies and start my own project.ย  There’s something about crafting that’s soothing and satisfying, and I’m excited to indulge in that feeling again soon ๐Ÿ™‚
How about you?ย  Are you into arts & crafts?ย  How do you honor and express your creativity?
Practical Mind Tools: Create Box
This is such a great idea – putting your goals in a box ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m sure most of us have tried listing goals down or creating vision boards but how about putting them in a beautiful box instead? Can you imagine what a nice feeling there is to be experienced each time you open up the box to dream some more about your goals? It’s like opening a Christmas present! I am so trying this! โค
Law of Attraction - The experiment
I am a great believer in writing down your goals, whether they are career related or personal goals. By putting it in writing or representing it in other visual formats will help to clarify what you want in life and ultimately help you to achieve your goals. One of the tools I have used in recent years is a goal โ€˜Create Boxโ€™; a box which contains all my goals and visions for the future. I also have a gratitude stone in my box as part of my goal attainment and training my mind to practice gratitude.
So what is a create box? Itโ€™s a technique that I picked up from Susie Pearlโ€™s โ€˜Instructions for Happiness and successโ€™ book and it is a very simple idea; a bit like having a vision board in a box! Get a nice looking box (a gift box, small storage box etc.) and put yourโ€ฆ
