Finally Getting Around To Doing It

Today is a sunny Sunday over here at my small, sleepy corner of Indonesia and as usually happens when I’m not alone in the house (the hubs and daughter are home), I get a burst of energy ๐Ÿ˜Š

So up I went to my potted plants to finally start the repotting process I’ve been putting off for about 2 weeks now.

But first let me introduce you to them (no names because I don’t have a clue ๐Ÿ˜€):

need repotting

This is how they look now after I transferred them away from direct sunlight.ย  They looked so much worse a couple of weeks back due to my ignorance ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ I thought as long as they weren’t in direct sunlight for an entire day and they got enough water, they’d be good. Well, as you can see from the 2 in the front row, the Indonesian sun is just way too much for them.

Bigger Homes

I was able to repot 3 (back row) and salvaged a 4th that had died but had these little off-shoots that seemed like they wanted a chance to liveย ๐Ÿคž (3rd from left).

batch one repotted

I’m going to do the rest sometime within the week as I believe they are the most challenging.ย  The pink one has a broken stem that produces weak and sickly looking leaves. But it keeps producing new leaves so I take that to mean it hasn’t given up yet. ๐Ÿ˜˜

I don’t think I need to repot the aloe vera but it’s borne children so maybe they should be transferred to a separate pot.

The 3rd one is giving me some blooms – so maybe it’s happy where it is? But I do feel that the pot is too small and I might have to divide the plant because it seems there are 2 of them in the same pot.

The last one (partially hidden) has an ugly pot and I might as well move it to a bigger one to anticipate future growth (here’s hoping ๐Ÿ˜†).

Brawns Vs. Brains

OF COURSE, I don’t have a clue about the proper repotting of plants, I just mimicked what I saw the lady selling the plants did. As usual, I read up about it after the factย ๐Ÿ˜ย  And now I have to go back up and water them. Duh! ๐Ÿคฃ

Oh and before I go, did you know that plants can make your brain work better? Here are 14 more reasons to add plants to your life. Me, I just wanted a new active hobby that would beautify my home at the same time โค๏ธ

old plants

Participating in this week’s SYW prompt ๐Ÿ˜ƒ It’s already Tuesday here in Indonesia but this is when I get to see the questions, so … and technically it should still be Monday evening in some parts of the world anyways ๐Ÿ˜

So here we go:

What colour do you feel most comfortable wearing?

Right now in my pregnant state almost all pieces are black. There’s one blue, one gray, one white and one silver – because they did not come in black and I really needed them. A dress for special occasions is green, but this was lent to me by my cousin.

The moment I learned I was pregnant I right away chose black to be my colour because I didn’t want to invest in a lot of pregnancy clothes. Nobody can truly be sure that today I’m wearing the same top that I wore last Saturday. And that’s my point!ย ๐Ÿ˜†ย ๐Ÿ˜† Black also does a fine job hiding the flab and making me look pulled together somehowย ๐Ÿ‘

What is your favourite type of dog?

One that can take care of itself ๐Ÿ™„

List at least five favourite flowers or plants?

I can’t! I don’t know their names ๐Ÿ˜† Besides, I love all plants as long as they’re healthy, happily blooming and have no desire to take over my house with their roots and unwieldy leaves. Flowering plants are the best, but they’re also high maintenance in my experience.

This is a very timely question because lately I have become interested in buying (and caring for) potted plants.ย  The picture at the top of this post was taken when my plants first came home. I don’t have a green thumb, so by now of course, a few have already given up all hope of survival and still a few are struggling to make sense of their situation ๐Ÿ˜†

These 3 beauties I just bought last Saturday after my doctor’s appointment:

new plants

I hope they bloom instead of giving up on me right away ๐Ÿ˜† The 3rd one on the right is my favorite – it seems to be a very resilient plant and I usually see them at resorts, al fresco restos, hotels and golf courses in various lovely colors:

What inspired you this past week?

These plants I just featured. It’s always exciting to be at the start of a new hobby ๐Ÿ™‚

Meet Leonora โค๏ธโ€

In August I adopted 3 new leafy family members Britney, Jeannette and Eleanor so I could try my hand at caring for plants, and to spruce up our living room as well.

Unfortunately Eleanor didn’t make it ๐Ÿ˜ฅ Unlike B and J which were sprouting new leaves, E was loosing hers. I tried placing her outside as I was told she was the outdoors kind but, she had other plans ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

So a couple of weeks ago I bought Leonora to take her place. She gives these pretty white flowers and has shown no signs of degradation so far ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m glad these plants are not high maintenance. I put them out to sun (usually for a whole day) perhaps only every 4 days or so, and I spritz water on their leaves and soil maybe every 3 days.ย  I don’t know if the white spots on one of Jeanette’s leaves is cause for concern but I’ll monitor it just in case.

Britney Jeanette Leonora

So now that these 3 are doing okay, I’m thinking of buying another one to add to the group.ย  Perhaps a lovely anthurium as this amazing friend of mine recommends.ย  We could call the new plantย  “the Auntie” ๐Ÿ™‚

Fitness & Vanities, Monthly Reviews & Blog Updates

Woo-hoo! The First of The “~ber” Months Has Arrived

Back home we always believed that once the first of the “~ber” months comes a’ knocking, December will be upon us in a blink.

Well, I hope not ๐Ÿ™‚ I love to savor.ย  How about you?

So it’s that time of the month to do a review of previous month’s goals and here’s where I’m at:

1.ย  30 day plank challenge

Being a housewife/stay at home mom/ lady of leisure is no excuse BUT, I have become sedentary o_O

I took on the 30-day plank challenge as a last ditch effort to keep my abs in check because, here’s something you don’t know about me: I don’t care so much about the rest of my body, but having belly rolls is something my vanity just cannot allow ๐Ÿ™„

So I am somewhere around day 17-18 already where I need to hold my plank for 90 secs. The 1st 60 is okay, anything past that and I begin to shake ๐Ÿ˜€ But I’m getting there.

2. get a solid yoga foundation

I came as far as enrolling in a professionally designed online yoga class.ย  But then a nasty skin allergy on my foot derailed me.ย  I took it as the Universe telling me this wasn’t the way to go.ย  So this goal is on hold for now.

3. 6 new meals project

What 6 new meals project?! (LOL!) XD

4. finish the granny square blanket

It’s coming along nicely and should be done next week, the latest ๐Ÿ™‚

5. indoor plants

potted plants

Britney and Jeanette seem to be doing okay.ย  But Eleanor (the tiny pink one) has shed leaves in the mean time. She still looks okay though, she still has 2 big leaves and 2 baby ones and doesn’t look dry or wilting. We’ll see in the next couple of days.

I like having plants around the house ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m thinking of adding more, but I really want the flowering kind.ย  As you can see, my environment could use some color.

And yes, I already thought of making a doily for that table ๐Ÿ˜‰

6. Finish a MOOC

Good Lord, I used to not have any problems sitting still and wolfing down information.ย  I used to be in Marketing for heavens sake! But now, I just can’t do it ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

The course I’m taking is called Parenting In The Digital Age offered by Canvas Network.ย  It’s a very relevant course, and no doubt very well coordinated.ย  But I just can’t sit still to read! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I get restless and I can’t even do 30 minutes without finding some excuse to stand up.

Moving on ~~~

New entrants

We have discovered a nice clubhouse with a gym and a swimming pool.ย  My daughter is now taking swimming lessons there and my husband got busy buffing himself. While accompanying my daughter I also met a nice lady who very enthusiastically invited me to join their Zumba class.ย  They also do yoga once a week.ย  Score! ๐Ÿ˜€

So I bought new swim wear and a skipping rope.ย  And because the 30 day plank challenge is proving to be really doable, I’m taking this on as well.

I will not go down the sedentary hole without a fight! ๐Ÿ˜›

And now it’s your turn!

What are you bringing into your life in sexy September? ๐Ÿ™‚ โค

New Leafy Family Members

Hello gorgeous!ย  Meet Britney, Jeanette and Eleanor, they are the newest addition to my family โค (And can you tell how playful Jeanette is from the way she’s poking Britney in this photo?) XD

Okay before you start thinking I’m totally nuts :D, let me mention that over the weekend I decided to add happiness to my environment by trying my hand at caring for indoor plants.ย  If some of you are wondering what happened to Mimosa well, she fell to an early and unfortunate demise from the balcony I perched her on.ย  I suspect this guy had everything to do with it ๐Ÿ˜ก

(And yes, I like to name my plants.ย  And my yarn. I’m just crazy that way) XD

Moving on ~

I wanted the flowering kind but there wasn’t much choice at the plant nursery. Most of their plants were not the tabletop kind. I might move on to large houseplants eventually but I’d like to start somewhere bite-sized. Hence, I’m hoping these lovelies are here to stay.ย  More importantly, that I learn how to make them bloom. (Apart from Mimosa, I’ve never had any plants before).

I bought some fertilized soil and nice pots at the hardware store and re-potted them yesterday.

re potted houseplants

I’m allowing them until tomorrow to get used to their new pots and to be out under trees ๐Ÿ™‚ Meanwhile I’m busy making space for them in our living room.ย  They should be safe there from this guy! I’ll post another picture sometime next week.

That’s it for now. Let me leave you with this very helpful houseplant care guide โค
