What Could You Buy That Could Help You Make the Most of Where You Live?

Author Melody Warnick asks a very smart question that immediately resonated with me:

~ What could you buy (or borrow or rent) that would help you make the most of where you live? ~

For me the answer is the 2 outdoor chairs that you see in the above photo 😊

I make no secret about the fact that I LOOOOVE to spend time under the wide open sky in the evenings. I used to just stand or walk in circles looking up at the wide, astoundingly beautiful night sky, say my prayers and feel grateful & content. Evenings are usually cool and breezy making the personal time even more pleasant.

A few weeks ago I had the brilliant idea to buy those chairs and, now my evening musings are even that much more delicious πŸ’– At times my husband joins me, at times my eldest, but mostly I’m alone.Β  And sometimes, in the late afternoons, I also do my crochet outside thanks to these inexpensive chairs.

How about you? What’s your answer to the question? πŸ™‚

Better Pictures 2018

It’s Time To Get Started On 2018

Hi everyone! I’m still here, in case anyone’s noticed 🀭

I’m still living life in 2-hour sleep-deprived increments and experiencing post partum hair loss as we speak (eeeek!).Β  But I’m doing quite well under the circumstances.

So what’s new?

Among my goals for this year is to take better pictures and to (finally, finally) use my DSLR as I go along.Β  I’ve always wanted to improve my photography skills and I bought the thing to seal the deal – you know, very much like buying a treadmill or a lifetime gym membership to affirm the veracity of your intentions πŸ™„

However, after leafing through its manual like it was some distasteful magazine, the DSLR turned into a pricey paperweight, gathering dust as the limelight went back to my ever handy, lightweight & uncomplicated iPhone. (Which reminds me of my treadmill which also became a pricey clothes rack & laundry hamper station, but I digress… πŸ™„πŸ™„).

2018 will be a year of ‘more doing and less hair twirling’ for me though so the DSLR has been exhumed and together we will be bonding over some photography courses this year. To help get me started, I’ve decided to do WP’s Photography Developing Your Eye 1 course rrrright now.

The 1st assignment is to get oriented with your camera (gulp!) and to take a photo representation ofΒ  what the word “home” brings to mind for you. Right away I think ~ hmmm, how fitting for someone who is all but home!

However, it didn’t take long for me to decide on a subject: our living room.

Okay, I do know that you’re supposed to take pictures with the light behind you, but that view just wasn’t as nice as these ones so …

I chose our living room because it’s one of my pet projects in my quest to making Batam work. I love this space because it is sunny and airy, and I want to build on this by turning it into something cozy and fun.

I still have a long way to go [because I get distracted] and have only managed to add everything else that’s not the black couch, the 2 black sofas and the square table. (Unfortunately, they come with the house so there’s nothing I can do about them). On a good day I’d put a few of my potted plants here and there but I was too lazy to get them for this shoot so you’ll just have to do with fluffy-huggable Anais and Mr. Piddles instead 🀭

So anyhoot, this space represents the concept of home for me. Familiar, pleasant, comfortable, fun.

(1 down, 9 more to go πŸ‘Š) πŸ€ͺ

Share Your World – September 11, 2017

Howdy sexy people! πŸ‘‹

I’ve been under the weather this past week – cough and colds but, fortunately feeling better now πŸ˜ƒ Glad to come back to the blog with this week’s installment of Share Your World.

Would you want $200,000 right now or $250,000 in a year? It’s safe to assume all money is tax free.

Right now so husband will have fun making it grow through his day trading.

Is it more important to love or be loved?

Oh good, it only asks which one is more important, I don’t have to choose between the two πŸ‘ ☺️

I think to love is more important as long as you love from a place of giving and not from sacrifice or with the expectation of returns. If love is freely given like this, there is happiness and contentment that is independent of external circumstances.

I also believe that if you give love, love comes back to you as well.

List things that represent abundance to you.

Money (I mean, hey, just being honest here πŸ˜‚Β πŸ˜‚).Β  If you have money then you basically have the ability to take better care of yourself and loved ones.

I would also list having (a) family, true friends, good health of course, freedom, safety and being able to live where you feel the happiest.

What inspired you this past week? Β Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.Β

Oh, I got a few really nice blessings this week:

  • I got a visit from 2 good friends (from Batam) who happen to be pregnant too and we got a good laugh out of it.
  • My daughter had her period, which was a surprise to me because she’s only 10. I thought it was a good time to talk to her about how babies are made and well, at the end of the talk her reaction was an emphatic “eeeeeeuuww! GROSS!!!” πŸ˜…Β  I’m just gonna savor that for now 😁
  • I got a long distance call from my best friend from home and it did wonders for my soul. It’s very difficult to maintain friendships when you live far far away and already a few have sorta gone cold. Fortunately this one has endured till now and hopefully we can keep the bond strong ❀️
  • One of my plants is coming up with blooms! Yay πŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒI’m not too hopeless after all πŸ˜„
  • My stomach is giving me some relief from indigestion and acid reflux. I still need to be careful, but I’ve been able to sleep better. I tell ya, ya haven’t known misery until ya’ve experienced the tantrums of a 3rd tri pregnant woman’s tummy 🀒🀒🀒

Now what are YOUR answers? Write in the comments or better yet, join the funΒ πŸ‘‰ here. We’ve got plenty of room for you πŸ™‚

Share Your World 2016 #21

With your answers, please remember we are in the SYW world and which may not always match our reality.

What is your favorite go to beverage? Β Water, coffee, tea, coke, soda (non-alcoholic)

Water.Β  Especially with Indonesia’s hot climate where a glass of cool water can taste like heaven πŸ™‚

Coffee is my absolute favorite ❀️‍ ❀️‍  ❀️‍ Right now though I’m enjoying fruit flavored teas because I’m trying to curb my insomnia.

Can you change a car tire?

No. 😐 πŸ˜‘

Are you a listener or talker?

Hmmm … It really depends on the topic. If it’s not particularly interesting then I find that I tire rather quickly of either talking or listening about it. Fortunately, the opposite is also true! πŸ™‚

Would you rather have no internet or no cell phone?

No cell phone.Β  Life is just more peaceful that way πŸ™‚ I mean, I need a cell phone of course. But in a perfect world it can only make outgoing calls and cannot receive any incoming XD XD Text messages and emails are okay as I want the luxury to respond in my own time.

Plus, the internet is like my lifeline to the rest of the world. And it’s detrimental to whatever social life I have at the moment XD

Bonus question: Β What are you grateful for from last week ~

Last week I decided to lay off on my morning magic elixir (brewed coffee) for an indefinite span of time because I noticed my insomnia was getting worse. This wasn’t an easy decision because I LOVE coffee! 😧 😧 My mornings are just not the same 😒 😒

However. I have been sleeping much much better now. I can actually feel sleepiness settling down on me around bedtime, and I’ve stopped waking up sporadically throughout the night. I’ve started dreaming again and I’m waking up before my alarm sounds ❀ πŸ˜€

(Do not take this to mean I will never drink coffee again though. Nuh-uh! πŸ˜’ πŸ˜’ I just have to come up with a “schedule” of sorts to balance things).

~ and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?Β

Some online purchases πŸ™‚ I need coconut oil for my oil pulling and hair care, some beans for learning how to make chilli and additional yarn for a sweater I’m knitting.

I also plan to try making Indian chapati bread πŸ™‚ Looks easy enough and the husband is enthusiastic about it πŸ™‚

Okay! πŸ˜€ Now what are YOUR answers? πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Feel-Good Fridays

A World Away

no worriesI think the best way to start this challenge is by sharing the biggest thing I’ve ever done for myself by way of self care – quitting my job at the start of this year.

Now if you knew me personally, and rewind a few years back, you’d never ever imagine this to be something I would do. Me, competitive, independent, proud. And to leave a lucrative career to become someone who was financially dependent on a husband – preposterous!

But we were a fragmented family then. My husband was an expat abroad and our only child was beginning to express her unhappiness at our situation. Being a quasi single parent was also taking its toll on me. While I relished the freedom of solo decision-making, anything unexpected, no matter how small in hindsight, would drive me up the wall. I was feeling exposed on all fronts, with not a solid wall to back up against.

Resentment was building up. And mentally, I was feeling increasingly tired.

So I swallowed my pride and told the hubs about it. Fast forward a couple of months later and here I am in Indonesia, uprooted from everything dear and familiar, practically confined within the 4 walls of this huge, old house, and with only the occasional visit from a mischievous monkey to call as the day’s highlight XD

But oh how much relaxed I feel. How nice it is to have someone take care of you – no more stressing out about flat tires, leaky faucets and things that go bee-doo-bee-doo in the night!

How luxurious to have that much time to do whatever I want. To not have to rush, to sleep without stress, to wake up without stress… amazing!

And to be able to singularly take care of something truly important for a chance – my family ❀

It’s my time to take stock. To curate what to bring along unto the next journey, and what to leave behind. This is my ‘grace of interruption’. And I’m glad I took it πŸ™‚

This post is fondly written for Writeful Mind’s Feel-Good Friday weekly challenge πŸ™‚
